MediTek Honoured at National Environment Awards

Managing Director, Phil Rice was presented with the Green Apple by Ploughcroft owner, environmental campaigner and Dragons Den winner, Chris Hopkins, at a reception at the House of Commons on the 14 of November 2011.
Competition for a Green Apple award is extremely high and 2011 was no exception, with well-known car manufacturers, industrial giants and multi-million pound utilities all among the contenders. The presiding judge described the accomplishment as “very well deserved” when announcing MediTek had won.
The award recognises the company’s pioneering approach to enhancing stairlift recycling schemes. By designing a single product that was capable of being easily, quickly and cost effectively re-sited so that councils across the country can offer a fast track system of stairlift installations and yield significant value for money by each new stairlift purchased, thereby providing access solutions to multiple households.
The company was also singled out for its dedication to sourcing many materials from local suppliers and its commitment to retaining its manufacturing operations in the UK rather than overseas.
A member of the BHTA’s Stairlift and Access section, MediTek is based in Fishburn, County Durham and specialises in the manufacture and supply of straight rail stairlifts.
Managing Director, Phil Rice told THIIS: ““It was a triumph in itself to be shortlisted among the likes of Mercedes, Nissan and Jaguar and to actually win a Green Apple Award was a truly fantastic achievement for us, particularly as manufacturing in the UK is becoming increasingly difficult. We would like to thank the judges for considering MediTek worthy of this prestigious award and it is a testament to all the hard work of everyone in the company.”
